RWC 2010 Beach cleaning tomorrow 4pm @ Ravine and the party 8pm

The local association Bleu Ocean was born 15 years ago thanks to local rider Nico Zabala. The main goal was to start promoting all board sports on the island of La Réunion and to protect the coastline. Today, the association is more focused on the promotion and defense of windsurfing to comply with navigation areas that have almost been eliminated by the Maritime Affairs, as windsurfing is a sport still unknown on the island. Today, the association also organizes friendly competitions for his members in the waves of Ravine Blanche or Etang Salé.

Partner of The “2010 Reunion Wave Classic”, Blue Ocean and its members regularly help for the good set up of the event. As the “Wave Classic” organization, which works for the environment on each stage of his tour, Blue Ocean wished to organize a “beach cleaning” by taking advantage of the venue of the champions on this 2nd edition of the RWC. This Saturday August 28, we will clean the beach in Ravine Blanche at 4pm.

A waste collection will be done on this part of the coast. Gloves and plastic bags will be provided to all those who wish to join this environmental cause.After the exercise, let’s have fun! A “beach party” is then planned from 6pm with music, concert, cocktails, and a typical dinner around 8pm for those who wish to join the pros and the association. 5€ for members, 10€ for guests …A good initiative of the association that will allow you to join the champions and discuss with them by mixing helpful with pleasure… JOIN US !

RWC 2010 Day 2 Down the line in Etang Salé !

The strong wind from east-southeast this morning has again directed the 12 riders of the « 2010 Reunion Wave Classic » to the spot of l’Etang Salé. The waves showed a good height of 2m in the biggest sets, the wind was perfectly oriented, side offshore, making the waves hollow, long and fast. The dream spot for any good waverider!

It was about 12:30pm when the riders and the organization staff launched the first heat. 30 minutes, the 2 best surfs are taken into account.

Tonight was the Opening Ceremony of the event and with the presence of Virginie Kbidi – Vice-President of the Regional Council, Guirec Piriou - marketing manager for enterprises at Orange, and Fabrice Tournassoud representing Australine & Diego, the teams were drawn.

Longboard Café, 7pm. A lot of local people came down to the seafront of St Pierre to welcome the international guest pro-riders. The 4 local captains, Steven Pichot (captain of the winner team on the RWC 2009), Nico Zabala, Loïc Frappat and Pierre Godet have so drawn their team partners. And here are the final results!

Opening ceremony and Press conference

If some riders like Zane Schweitzer from Hawaii, and Fabrice Beaux (France) or even Camille Juban (Guadeloupe) have already arrived in St Pierre, the rest of the troup is on his way to join the island.

And this is from tomorrow, wednesday 25, that we will introduce the event to the media during a short Press Conference that will take place at the “Longboard Café” in St Pierre, at 6.30pm.

Then at 7pm will start the Opening Ceremony of this 2nd edition of “La Reunion Wave Classic”, with the draw of the 4 teams of 3 riders by each local captains! You guys are all invited to join. As usual, this is gonna be a great moment for all as soon as the names will be revealed. Stay tuned, we’re on our way to the airport. We’ll come back to you around thursday morning to give you some fresh news from the island where we shall be able to give you “live” informations thanks to a 3G key provided by sponsor Orange.

Premiére Journée de l'Occasion

Samedi 17 juillet s'est déroulée à Trou d'eau, la première journée de l'occasion millésime 2010.
Une trentaine de participants ont exposé et vendu un peu de matos de Wind et de Kite.
Une bonne expérience à renouveler d'ici quelques mois...

Défit Kite avec Seb Coupy

Seb Coupy a réalisé un exploit, la traversée Maurice Réunion en Kitesurf.

« ça, c’est fait… » comme dirait l'intéressé.
Un gros challenge réalisé de main de maître : BRAVO !

C’est le premier record de la traversée Maurice – Réunion en Kite.

Maître Michel RULLIER, huissier de justice, a officiellement validé la traversée de Seb grâce aux traces GPS. Il a pu comparer les traces du bateau et celle du kite et vérifier qu’il y ai bien deux traces différentes. Les GPS des deux embarcations ont été récupérées à l’arrivée, directement sur le quai de Saint Rose et analysées grâce à un logiciel de compétition parapente. Pour la petite histoire, un seul des trois GPS de Seb aura permis de lire une trace complète. Heureusement qu’il en avait trois.

Une référence de point de départ et de point d’arrivée existe désormais.

Start à Maurice : 8 h 41 mn 51 sec (2km de rayon, sortant, autour de B1, pointe du Morne)
Goal à la Réunion : 15 h 56 mn 14 sec (2km de rayon, entrant, autour de A1, Phare de Sainte Rose)
Temps du record : 7 h 14 mn 23 s.
Distance : 170,4 km

JEUX DES ILES 2011, dernières infos

ENTRAINEMENTS, SÉLECTIONS : voila les dernières infos pour les entrainements et la sélection des coureurs aux Jeux 2011. Pour l'entrainement, trois planches complètes vont bientôt être disponibles à l'Association Nautique de Saint Pierre. Les premières séances d'entrainement devront se déroulées début septembre, puis tous les 15 jours le samedi après-midi. Un stage de 4 jours aura lieu courant mai 2011 et la sélection définitive des coureurs fin juin 2011.
